MOKAN Contractors Assistance Center Announces Recipients of the Minority Engineer Scholarships

MOKAN-CCAC has awarded scholarships to five St. Louis area students to pursue degrees in Engineering. These scholarships are a direct result of the proceeds raised this year from MOKAN’s 30th Annual Awards Dinner.

Scholarship recipients are Ahmed Hameed, University of Missouri- Rolla; Megan Williams, University of Missouri-Rolla; April Pritchard, Xavier University of Louisiana; Robert Henry, University of Missouri- Rolla; and, Julian Davenport, University of Missouri–Rolla. Each student was awarded $1000.

Carl Mack, President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), was the keynote speaker at the Awards Dinner. During the event, MOKAN presented a check to Mr. Mack for the NSBE’s scholarship program with the stipulation that MOKAN’s contribution benefit students pursuing degrees in engineering from the St. Louis Area.

"We have been supportive of students who are seeking degrees in engineering. To ensure that we reach those students who need the help the most, we have always limited our selections to those who have not received other scholarships or assistance,” stated Eddie Hasan, President/CEO of MOKAN.

"Each year, MOKAN’s dinner has enabled us to provide financial support to students. We believe that the future rest in the hands of our youth and by supporting students pursuing engineering degrees, we are helping to developing future minority contractors,” said Eddie Hasan.

Major Sponsors for MOKAN’s 30th Anniversary were Clayco Construction, Anheuser-Busch Companies, National City Bank and The Pyramid Companies.

To qualify for the MOKAN scholarship, students submit an essay stating their future goals and why they are pursuing a degree in engineering. Students also submit a copy of their transcript, a letter of recommendation or support from a school counselor or teacher, and a letter of acceptance from the college they plan to attend.

MOKAN accepts scholarship applications in the month of June. Any interested student attending a four-year college or university who desires to pursue an engineering degree can apply. For additional information, contact MOKAN at 314-535-9200.
